About

Hey! My name is Ivy, a lawyer and travel content creator based in Nairobi, Kenya. Channelling my love and passion for travel led me to create this space to share my travel experiences and to help inspire people to explore the world, go on memorable adventures and most importantly push past their comfort zone.

The idea for the blog was sparked at a hostel in Jinja, Uganda back in 2015. It was my first time staying at a hostel and getting to interact with nomads and backpackers. Talking to people from all over the world, who’d left their home countries and sold their belongings to travel the world was inspiring. Travel has always been my first love but somewhere along the line, I got sucked into society’s view that my dream of travelling the world was unconventional and unattainable. It was so refreshing and encouraging to see people living out their dreams. That moment solidified what I always knew I wanted to do, to see the world and live an extraordinary life.

Back home, I struggled to find information on budget travel destinations in Kenya as a university student. At the time, the majority of people documenting travel were much older and the budget travel information online was mostly written by foreigners.

This search led me to create OCD, a space for people to find practical information on travel in Kenya and beyond, information that inspires travel enthusiasts to go on epic adventures without breaking their banks.

Of Chows and Dhows

Chow means food and a dhow is an Arab sailing vessel used particularly in Eastern Africa. Of Chows and Dhows represents a journey, an adventure through this beautiful world we are blessed to call home. The goal is to live our best lives, friends!

So, if you love the idea of waking up in different destinations, immersing yourself in different cultures, meeting people from all over the world and have a knack for adventure, stick around, this one is for you!

Hi Ivy. Very classy blog here. I stumbled onto it while googling info on hiking up Lake Ellis. Enjoyed your post on that and stayed a while to navigate around. I loved it. Keep up the good work and hopefully we can get to collaborate one of these days. Thanks.
