Eyes on the Sunny Nairobi CBD

Sometimes we think way outside the box while some of the answers we seek are in the box, in a dark corner, sealed and forgotten. Sometimes we get so indulged in the daily hustle and bustle of city life, that we forget to appreciate life and the things around us. I am guilty of this, of often neglecting the gems in my country and in my city. So, I have decided to explore more of Kenya, starting with my city Nairobi.

That said, I have started a new blog series on Nairobi, where I’ll show you more of this city.

So here is the first post on the series…

Nairobi

On this particular day, I was touring Nairobi for i.africa. The first place we went to was KICC for killer views of the city. From the Helipad, you can see the different parts of the city. The perspective from 105m above ground is deeply humbling, each view reminds you what a tiny space you occupy in this world. The view comes at the affordable price of Kshs. 200 for residents.

Rates:

Non Resident Adult500.00
Non Resident Children200.00
Residents (Must have accompanying proof of residency)300.00
Resident Children100.00
International Students (Must have accompanying student card)300.00
East African Citizens (Ken,Ug,Tz,Rwa,Bur,S.Sud)200.00
Secondary School Students100.00
Pupils50.00

The rooftop is also perfect for dates

and impromptu photo shoots.

After that, we passed by the Maasai Market at the Supreme Court (which is less than five minutes walk away from KICC). Vendors at the market sell crafts, beaded jewellery, paintings, woven bags, dolls, stools, masks, shoes, African print dresses and so much more.  The market is open on weekends so be sure to catch it then.

We bought lunch then headed to Central Park for a mini-picnic where we stumbled upon the Kenya Strongest Man competition. Relaxing aside, you can go on a boat ride at Kshs. 100 at Uhuru Park (which is a few minutes away) and enjoy views of Nairobi’s skyline while at it.

Our last stop for the day was Snocream, which is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) creameries in Nairobi for some ice cream. Snocream is such a gem! It is easily my favourite spot in the CBD, especially on hot afternoons. The ice cream is sooo good. If you haven’t been to Snocream yet you should. As soon as possible. Actually tomorrow! I kid. Anyway, you would be in for a treat. Did I mention Snocream is pocket-friendly?

This day tour was the perfect reminder that you do not have to travel far to have fun.

You do not need an out of town getaway, sometimes all you need is right in your back yard.

There’s so much that Nairobi has to offer and I cannot wait to show you more! Make sure you subscribe to the blog to catch more posts on this series.

Till next time,
