Getting There

The road to Embu town is tarmacked and our journey was mostly smooth sailing, guided by the trusty Google Maps. However, the last twenty-minute stretch was torturous due to horrible potholes. On the plus side, the Camp has put up signs from Embu town to its gate, so accessibility is great and despite the potholes, the road is manageable for two-wheel drive cars. Arriving after two-and-a-half hours, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality right from the entrance gate, setting the tone for an unforgettable experience.

First Impressions

Stepping into the compound, a welcome respite from the heat enveloped us, courtesy of the cool surroundings. Immediately you arrive you will notice the charming bandas dotted around the property. Opting for an inclusive package (one adventure, either mud fun/wild swing/ swimming and a nature trail, canopy walk and a snack), our adventure began.

Experience

On to the fun stuff. Camp Ndunda Falls is jam-packed with activities that’ll get your heart racing and your adrenaline pumping. Whether you’re into thrilling activities or leisurely nature trails, there’s something here for everyone.

Nature Trail

First things first was the nature trail. We embarked on a leisurely nature trail reminiscent of Karura Forest’s tranquillity and the Giraffe Centre Nature Trail’s charm. The well-marked path, spanning two kilometres, was a lovely escape into nature, accompanied by the soothing sounds of flowing water. The trail has Safety rails, providing stability, as there are muddy sections.

As you wander through the winding nature trail, you’ll encounter a rich tapestry of flora that calls Camp Ndunda home. We did not encounter any wildlife however you can expect to find several species of birds and insects. The nature trail is the perfect activity for those keen on unwinding and connecting with nature.

Wild Swing

For the adventure junkies, the wild swing at Camp Ndunda Falls is the ultimate thrilling activity. Perched high above the treetops, the swing is set to plunge you above River Rupingazi. Okay, let’s get real for a second—the wild swing at Camp Ndunda Falls is no joke. While I have tried a Wild Swing before, I must admit that this one scared me.

Despite initial apprehension, I summoned courage and went for it.

The rush of soaring through the air was nothing short of exhilarating. The Guides had a field day pushing and flipping us on the Swing, adding an extra dash of excitement to the experience. Picture yourself soaring high above the treetops, the wind in your hair, and the rush of adrenaline coursing through your veins.

The wild swing is high, stimulating and guaranteed to give you the ride of your life. But trust me when I say it’s worth it. Once you take that leap, you’ll feel like you’re flying.

Canopy Walk

If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, the canopy walk at Camp Ndunda Falls offers a bird’s eye view of the stunning surroundings.

Traverse suspended swaying walkways above the forest floor as you marvel at the panoramic vistas of cascading waterfalls and the meandering River Rupingazi below.

It’s like walking on air as you stroll along suspended walkways high above the forest floor. And the views? Let’s just say they’re out of this world.
